Raymonde April est reconnue depuis la fin des années 1970 pour sa pratique minimaliste inspirée du quotidien, au confluent du documentaire, de l’autobiographie et de la fiction. L’Autoportrait au sac est le premier autoportrait de l’artiste à être diffusé. Il a été reproduit sur le carton d’invitation de sa première exposition individuelle, à la galerie Powerhouse de Montréal en 1977, et à l’exposition inaugurale de la première Chambre blanche, à Québec, en 1978. L’autoportrait a été remarqué à ce moment-là par les rédacteurs du Nouvel Observateur et reproduit dans le prestigieux Spécial Photo. La photo dans la photo en 1978. / Raymonde April has been known since the late 1970s for her minimalist practice inspired by the everyday, at the confluence of documentary, autobiography, and fiction. Autoportrait au sac was her first publicly presented self-portrait. It was reproduced on the invitation to her first solo exhibition, at Powerhouse Gallery in Montreal in 1977, and at the inaugural exhibition of the first Chambre blanche, in Quebec City, in 1978. The self-portrait drew the attention of the editors at Le Nouvel Observateur and was produced in the prestigious Spécial Photo. La photo dans la photo in 1978.
