Alison Gildersleeve (b. 1970) is a contemporary American artist whose paintings depict dense forests or other natural scenes. Taking her childhood memories of the woods near her New England home, Gildersleeve’s canvases are reminiscent of the methods used in Abstract Expressionism, using colourful, thick layers of are paint squeezed directly out of the tube and manipulated in order to create paintings whose reference material seems to disappear into abstract shapes, only to reappear again.
