Lila Lewis Irving worked with watercolours in the 1980's and 1990's and exhibited frequently with the Toronto Watercolour Society. She received numerous awards and honourable mentions for her watercolour paintings. This painting is a bright composition with loosely painted purple flowers that fill the image plane. Lila Lewis Irving was born in 1935 in New York City and embraced abstraction early on. Irving earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin in 1963 as well as a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts from the University of Iowa in 1958. She emigrated to Canada in 1964 and is currently based near Toronto. Irving has exhibited extensively throughout Ontario and is known for her expressive, gestural, and moody abstract paintings.
