Description
Emily Carr (1871-1945) was a Canadian cultural pioneer, painter, potter, writer, illustrator and textile artist. In 1898, Carr made the first of many painting trips to Indigenous villages on Vancouver Island. She was profoundly influenced by the artworks she experienced there. It was at the exhibition on West Coast aboriginal art at the National Gallery in 1927 that Carr first met members of the Group of Seven who welcomed her as one of Canada's leading modern artists.
