Description
Born in 1970, Alison Gildersleeve is a contemporary artist whose paintings depict dense forests or other natural scenes. She completed her Bachelor of Art from the College of William and Mary Law School in College in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1992, later going on to complete her Master of Fine Arts from Bard College in 2004. Taking her childhood memories of the woods near her New England home, Gildersleeve’s canvases are reminiscent of the methods used in Abstract Expressionism, using colourful, thick layers of are paint squeezed directly out of the tube and manipulated in order to create paintings whose reference material seems to disappear into abstract shapes, only to reappear again.
