Description
Born in 1978, Allison Schulnik is a contemporary artist whose studio practice includes painting, ceramics and hand-made, traditional animation. She received her BFA in experimental animation at CALarts in 2000. Her work has been described by The New York Times as comparable to the works of James Ensor. Schulnik’s painting practice is directly influenced by her clay-animation background, as can be seen in her 2008 piece, Niagara Falls #5 (Currier & Ives). Here, and in other works, the paint is liberally applied either straight from the tube along with obvious hand and brush work, giving her them an almost sculptural quality.
